Karren has divided the sourdough starter for a week ahead and now we have enough (3 pails) to take to the ward dinner. Thank you to my rustic, bucolic yukon queen.
This is what it looks like-- a flour, water and yeasty starter. You save a little to keep as starter for the next batch, and use the rest for pancakes by adding eggs, sugar and oil. Then It really starts working and fermenting.
Setting up for the Fri. night whoop-de-doo.
We have 5 grills cooking pancakes, 2 stoves cooking scrambled eggs & sausages of different types.
Our good friend Don plays ragtime music. He is so talented and gives that Yukon atmosphere that we wanted. It seemed to turn out OK although it was supposed to be a high priest social that went just like the dough and swelled to include the whole ward. We used almost all the dough and a lot of pancakes stuck to our ribs. (which is just about where they stick for most of us). So That's how Jan. 2011 ended.
Wow - that's a lot of sourdough! What a fun thought and activity!
